Thanks to Douglas Johnson for pointing out in a private communication that George Brown, the other Gibson Dunn besides Daniel Kolkey who will be serving as legal counsel, is a Democrat.  That vitiates and probably eliminates my concern about the partisan nature of the representation.  But of course it does not purport to address my main concern, which is the serious questions raised by Kolkey's past conduct in connection with legal questions related to redistricting.
