There are too many ways public funding can be abused. It is worth reminding people of how Pat Buchanan and his gang took over the Reform Party and put $12 million in public funding into their pockets.

The money could be better spent to just pay people to vote, and perhaps take a test on who the candidates are are what are the issues, to get paid. But that would set a bad precedent. The challenge is to get people to be willing to pay for political information and take the time to deliberate on it.
