Larry, just substitute "misplaced in Microsoft Access" for "sent to my
private email account" and you have Waukesha County Clerk Nickolaus'
explanation in a nutshell. She found them on her own private
computer, which used Microsoft Access.

Apparently there were a few dozen Internet-cast ballots in the 2000
presidential election in Florida. (Occasionally, it takes emails
hours or days to arrive, even though they are normally nearly
instantaneous. What Larry jokes about above will happen, if it hasn't
already, if Internet-based "elections" are expanded. Instead of
entire precincts or wards of cities arriving late, the votes will be
spread out over large parts of the district.

Because it's not difficult for programmers to back-date an email, with
Internet elections there could be computer forensics battles over
"voter fraud" (back-dating) vs. electronic "voter suppression"
(internet hackers seeking to delay ballot transmission in order to
invalidate ballots and thus suppress voting). Such efforts are far
cheaper than the many millions it can take to sway a district's voters
legitimately.

"Ballots are now totaled: Prosser wins by 7,316"
The Journal-Sentinel reports. The race is within the margin for a
state-funded recount. Ms. Kloppenburg has not announced whether she will ask
for the recount or concede.
