The* WSJ's* Allysia Finley writes that Ted Cruz's victory over Scott
Dewhurst is due to more to the SuperPAC than the Tea Party.

I don't know how to weigh Finley's assertions: critics of campaign finance
restrictions have always credited *voters* and organization as much as
money.

But if Finley is right -- and it wasn't the Tea Party that made the
difference -- reformers have a lot to answer for: To so mask popular
sentiment under the gauze of spending restrictions all these years is
darn-near unforgivable.

As I say, I don't know if Finley is right. But I would bet that none of
the dozens who worked on freeing independent speech the past five years are
shedding many tears for Dewhurst. Of course, I can't speak for Richard
Briffault or the guys at Perkins Coie. ;)
