Folks,
I wanted to let you know about the panel on election law issues at the
SEALS (Southeastern Association of Law Schools) conference next week, on
Wed. Aug. 7 from 10:15-12:00.
Here is the program description:
This panel explores the role of judicial decisions on the administration of
the 2012 election. Specific topics include voter ID challenges, lawsuits
regarding registration laws and voter purges, and litigation over early
voting rules and provisional ballots, among others. The purpose of the
panel is to make an assessment of the judiciary’s role in setting out rules
for how states and local election officials administered the 2012 election.
The focus of the panel is specifically on election administration (often
referred to as the “nuts-and-bolts of running an election”), as opposed to
broader topics such as redistricting or campaign finance, to enable a
sustained look at the positive and negative aspects of judicial involvement
in the voting process.
Panelists include Mike
Dimino<http://law.widener.edu/Academics/Faculty/ProfilesHbg/DiminoMichaelR.aspx>
(Widener), Chad Flanders<http://slu.edu/colleges/law/slulaw/faculty/cflande2>
(SLU), Derek Muller<http://law.pepperdine.edu/academics/faculty/default.php?faculty=derek_muller>
(Pepperdine),
and Franita Tolson <http://www.law.fsu.edu/faculty/ftolson.html> (FSU), and
myself.
We might still be looking for a last-minute moderator; if anyone is
interested, please let me know. I hope to see some of you there!
Best,
Josh
