"FEC Deadlocks Again Over Disclosure Rules In Votes on Petition for

<http://news.bna.com/mpdm/MPDMWB/split_display.adp?fedfid=29956103&vname=mpebulallissues&jd=a0d6w3p0a0&split=0>:
"The Federal Election Commission deadlocked March 7 on votes regarding
how to handle a rulemaking petition on disclosure, then the agency
bogged down in trying to decide how to characterize the reasons for its
action. The agency's machinations are important because the FEC faces a
deadline of March 11 to respond to a court challenge of its current
disclosure rules for a type of political ads known as 'electioneering
communications.'"

The Nation:
<http://www.thenation.com/article/173242/supreme-court-uphold-voting-rights-act#>
On Sunday, March 3, Representative John Lewis locked arms with Luci
Baines Johnson and Vice President Joe Biden and marched across the
Edmund Pettus Bridge here. Forty-eight years earlier, on "Bloody
Sunday," Lewis was badly beaten by Alabama state troopers at the
foot of the bridge while attempting to march from Selma to
Montgomery in support of voting rights. Eight days later, Luci's
father introduced the Voting Rights Act before a joint session of
Congress. "When Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act on
August 6, 1965," Lewis said, "he helped free and liberate all of us."

Jim Messina CNN oped
<http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/07/opinion/messina-organizing-for-action/index.html?iref=allsearch>:
"While Organizing for Action is a nonprofit social welfare organization
that faces a lower disclosure threshold than a political campaign, we
believe in being open and transparent. That's why every donor who gives
$250 or more to this organization will be disclosed on the website with
the exact amount they give on a quarterly basis. We have now decided not
to accept contributions from corporations, federal lobbyists or foreign
donors."
Fred Wertheimer: <http://t.co/jUqxg8NCck> "The actions taken by
Organizing for Action(OFA), while appropriate, do not solve the
fundamental problems created by President Obama's involvement with OFA.
OFA remains an unprecedented entity that allows individual donors and
bundlers to provide unlimited amounts of money to an organization
functioning as an arm of the Obama presidency. The unlimited amounts
provided to OFA create opportunities for individual donors and bundlers
to buy corrupting influence over the Obama administration's policies and
decisions. At a minimum, they create the appearance that opportunities
for such corrupting influence exist."
Lisa Rosenberg

a Mechanism for Fat Cat Access...There is No Accountability...OFA is the

Nate Silver
<http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/07/in-supreme-court-debate-on-voting-rights-act-a-dubious-use-of-statistics/>:
"As much as it pleases me to see statistical data introduced in the
Supreme Court, the act of citing statistical factoids is not the same
thing as drawing sound inferences from them. If I were the lawyer
defending the Voting Rights Act, I would have responded with two queries
to Chief Justice Roberts. First, are Mississippi and Massachusetts
representative of a broader trend: do states covered by Section 5 in
fact have higher rates of black turnout on a consistent basis? And
second, what if anything does this demonstrate about the efficacy of the
Voting Rights Act?"
