And though Kelleher is an academic, he is not part of the technical community.
His background is in political science, not computers or technology, and he
does not have the expertise to back up his own claims.
This has long been one of my beefs with academia and elections. The ONLY thing
an academic degree after one's name has any relevance to is the specific area
of academic study in which the Ph.D. or whatever degree was earned. Yet, I too
often see academics sticking that Ph.D. after their name, then proceeding to
pontificate about something with nothing whatever to do with their area of
study. If the academic degree is going to be appended like an award on an
opinion piece, at the very least there should be a disclaimer when the opinion
has nothing to do with the person's training.
Mr. Kelleher's credentials to talk about Internet voting carry no more weight
than a butcher, a baker, or a candlestick maker. Dr. David Jefferson, however,
has academic credentials directly relevant to the issue on which he writes,
which is computer security.

Government is the servant of the people, and not the master of them. The
people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right
to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to
know. We insist on remaining informed so that we may retain control over the
instruments of government we have created.
Black Box Voting is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501c(3) elections watchdog group
funded entirely by citizen donations.
