You are missing my point. I don't know what the membership requirements are for this Association, and it really doesn't matter to me. I actually happened to think that the First Amendment gives Black people the right to hang out together and associate only with one another if that's what they want to do. Certainly that's what the Black Congressional Congress does, which, as I recall, denied membership to a white representative wanted to join. And again, I stress, I believe that is the right under the First Amendment, which protects the right of association.
The Point of a sorority or fraternity is to accept people that you like and reject the rest. As a nerd growing up, and still today, I don't really like those exclusionary values, because I am generally the one who gets excluded. Too short, too bad, not good looking enough, not athletic, blah blah blah. But do I think a fraternity has the right to choose not to associate with me because I'm too fat? Of course they do! The Capital First Amendment protects our right to associate with and we want, and also not to have to associate with those we would prefer not.
So if a group of Black professors want to form the "Black professors Association," they should have the right to do so. If a group of Black college girls wants to have an all black sorority, they should be able to do so. And similarly, if a group of white girls wants to have an all white sorority, they should be able to do so too.
I don't like it; I would never join an all white group; but if someone wants to have one, it should be there right.
And I will close by saying that if you really cannot see the irony in a group that is named for one particular race investigating another group charged with Bing for only one particular race, then you and I have a very different sense of what is ironical.

There is nothing in its mission statement (http://bama.ua.edu/~bfsaua/mission.htm) to suggest that this is true. Were I, a white person, a faculty member at the University of Alabama instead of at the University of Akron, I might well choose to join the Black Faculty and Staff Association as an expression of solidarity with the members of that organization and of support for its mission. Nothing in my experience with similar organizations in my part of the country suggests to me that I would be unwelcome. In fact, my experience is quite to the contrary.

> That conclusion appears to be supported by newly released internal documents reflecting contacts between commissioners and people outside the agency.
> The documents, released in response to Freedom of Information Act requests, show that FEC commissioners engaged in the recent partisan fights have been encouraged by Republican and Democratic lawyers and other outsiders, including at least one member of Congress and a top congressional staffer….
> The newly released documents revealed no apparent instances of improper attempts to influence commissioners, as the original requesters suspected might be the case. But, the messages did provide a glimpse of the internal workings of an agency viewed by critics as gridlocked along party lines and dysfunctional.
