The Tennessean:
<http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2014/08/07/tennesseans-vote-retain-supreme-court-justices/13756359/>
in a major defeat for Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, voters on Thursday voted
to keep all three Tennessee Supreme Court justices in retention
elections.
Chief Justice Gary Wade and Justices Connie Clark and Sharon Lee all
survived to win new eight-year terms on the state's highest court,
maintaining a margin of about 57 percent to 43 percent. While the
justices were able to overcomea vigorous opposition campaign by
Ramsey and others, who accused them of being "liberal," "soft on
crime" and of helping Obamacare
<http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2014/08/04/tn-supreme-court-battle-brings-national-money-scrutiny/13550987/>,
their retention victories were by some of the smallest margins in
recent history.

the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched a rulemaking to
expand online political file requirements to cable satellite and radio.
The action came in response to a petition filed last week by the
Campaign Legal Center, the Sunlight Foundation, and Common Cause. The
FCC notice requests public comment on the organizations' petition to
extend cable and satellite providers the requirement to post their
public files online that now cover broadcasters. In recent years, the
amount of political advertising on these other outlets has jumped
significantly and is expected to grow even more."

"Wall Street Campaign-Cash Restrictions Face Legal Attack"

Bloomberg
<http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-07/wall-street-campaign-cash-restrictions-face-legal-attack.html>:
New Jersey <http://topics.bloomberg.com/new-jersey/> Governor Chris
Christie <http://topics.bloomberg.com/chris-christie/>'s chances to
be the 2012 Republican vice-presidential nominee were hampered by a
U.S. regulation that could have an even bigger impact on the next
race for the White House.
The three-year-old rule from the Securities and Exchange Commission
effectively bars governors and other state officials from raising
money from Wall Street for state or federal elections. Having
Christie on the ticket would have complicated Mitt Romney's
presidential campaign, which took in more money from securities and
investment firms than any other industry.
Now, with governors including Christie, Scott Walker
<http://topics.bloomberg.com/scott-walker/> of Wisconsin and Bobby
Jindal <http://topics.bloomberg.com/bobby-jindal/> of Louisiana
contemplating a White House run in 2016, two state Republican
committees have filed a lawsuit to overturn the regulation.

FairVote <http://t.co/D1psTJ7VHT> wants to use multimember districts
even though those aren't allowed under a federal statute. "Although one
of the remedies conflicts with federal law, there is precedent from
Louisiana in 2008 for state action overriding federal law involving

"Conservative LightHouse" Campaign Finance Group Attacked as Backed

Watchdog.org:
<http://www.newsmax.com/US/Conservative-Lighthouse-CINO-George-Soros-Steve-King/2014/08/07/id/587511/>
There's a term among stalwart conservatives for lightweight
Republicans: RINO --- Republican In Name Only.
The same could be said for a fledgling organization by the name of
Conservative Lighthouse --- Conservative In Name Only --- according
to right-minded critics of the nonprofit in progress.
Creators of the organization say their mission is to bring
Republicans into the quest to reform a broken campaign finance system.
"I have spoken with many conservatives who, like me, believe that
our system of funding campaigns is completely out of whack and that
our politics today are dominated by crony capitalism where public
policy outcomes are not based on merit or representational
principles, but on who can buy influence," Mark McKinnon, a former
adviser to President George W. Bush and president and board member
of Conservative Lighthouse, told Watchdog.org in an email.
But a Watchdog.org investigation finds the nascent organization's
backers are heavily funded by some of the most prominent players in
left-leaning initiatives, and fund some very liberal initiatives.
