Byron Tau reports<http://www.politico.com/story/2014/07/cleveland-republican-national-convention-2016-elections-108681.html> for Politico. (It’s about the campaign $)
Really, it's more about campaign regulation, which determines when and how you can raise funds. The GOP's fund-raising capacity is what it is. It's the regulation that distorts the campaign and forces convention planners to work around its rules.
I would respectfully suggest that if $2600 for the primary and $2600 for the general are not "corrupting," $5200 for the primary and general, to be used as the campaign sees fit, are not corrupting either.
