[EL] Drop the pretext

You know, I realized today just after I tipped the mailman that donation limits (there's a federal limit on tips to mail carriers) are intended to protect the donor class as much as anyone. 

If the donor class is a target of reformers,  why don't reformers give donors the rope enough to hang themselves?

I mean, really.

Why not just drop the pretext, eliminate the limits on contributions to
candidates, and be done with the super PACs and IEs?
