[EL] Redistricting Reform Symposium - October 7

I am writing to let everyone on this listserv know that Common Cause is organizing a symposium titled "Redistricting Reform: Mapping Our Future," on Wednesday, October 7, in Washington, DC at The George Washington University Law School. Our goal will be to highlight the work of academics who have created new measures for gerrymandering and of advocates who will discuss reform campaigns happening around the country. From legislation to litigation, and initiatives in between, people are organizing efforts in state after state to push for greater citizen involvement, transparency and fairness in drawing district lines. We hope you can join this important conversation.

The symposium runs all day from 9:00 am-5:30 pm, with a reception until 6:30 pm. Panels will feature presentations by each of the academic winners of our "Gerrymander Standard" writing competition, attorneys who will discuss how recent U.S. Supreme Court cases are impacting redistricting, and grassroots advocates who will highlight legislative, ballot initiative, and litigation efforts in the states.

Joining us will be Norm Ornstein, Profs. Alan Morrison and Dan Tokaji, advocates from MALDEF, Brennan Center, NAACP, League of Women Voters, Common Cause and many others.
