[EL] how restrictive ballot access laws (relative to McMullin) probably elected Trump

Very interesting. It's like plurality voting makes elections a
hardly-democratic crapshoot on the happenstances of also rans. Trump may
have won because McMullin didn't get better ballot access, though he also
kind of won because Jill Stein did get on those ballots, though he may
still have won even if Jill Stein not been on the ballot, if Gary Johnson
had also not been on the ballot, or if Mike Bloomberg had.
Someone should invent a way to simulate one by one runoffs by letting
voters rank candidates in order of preference. Oh that's right, this
system, known has Instant Runoff Voting, has been obscurely used in the
U.S. since 1912, but people don't really care how it could significantly
help legitimize democracy, and also mitigate mindless partisanship, if
adopted on greater scales. (And its a good predicate for better ballot
access).
