[EL] Verdicts are in from Maine on the constitutionality & normalcy of ranked choice voting

The Maine US Senate and US House elections with ranked choice voting
election were impressive this year -- turnout was up, blank ballots
(undervotes were down) and voter error minuscule (less than 0.2%).
The fact that it changed one outcome helped trigger a request for a recount
however but it was dropped midway through as the tally was showing few
changes - just like in recounts in single choice elections. Now a federal
legal challenge that tried a full range of arguments has ended in the wake
of a robust opinion from Judge Lance Walker and a terse rejection of an
emergency appeal from the 1st circuit.. Here's a link to the story, with a
short excerpt from it.

AUGUSTA, Maine — Outgoing U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin of Maine’s 2nd District
announced on Monday that he will end his federal challenge

to the state’s ranked-choice voting system, which delivered Rep.-elect
Jared Golden’s historic 2018 victory

over the two-term incumbent.....Nothing improved for Poliquin’s case. In
December, Walker issued a more comprehensive

ruling
against the Republican’s challenge to the method. The outgoing congressman
then appealed to a higher court to stop Golden from being sworn in to
succeed him, but the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals rejected that challenge
