Good to hear of you collecting this data, David.

I'll note that it's significantly easier to do this in the statewide
elections for governor and Senator.

The people of color newly elected to those offices are......drumroll
please... Michelle Lujan Grisham, a New Mexico Democrat replacing another
Latina, Republican Susana Martinez.

And that's it, unless Mike Espy miraculously wins his Nov. 27 US Senate
runoff in Mississippi (where 58% of the vote went to the two Republican
candidates, including incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith who won a plurality) or if
the Brian Kemp in Georgia falls below 50%, and faces Stacy Abrams in a
gubernatorial runoff going alongside the secretary of state runoff in
December.

Speaking of runoffs, a fun fact: Mississippi will hold its runoff later
this month because its UOCAVA voters already have cast a ranked choice
"instant runoff" ballot
<http://www.sos.ms.gov/elections-voting/pages/military-overseas-voter.aspx>-
a practice also done this month in Louisiana and done in primaries earlier
this year in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and South Carolina. Using this
practice, UOCAVA voters tend to have higher rates of participation in
runoffs than in-person voters.

Mainers are upholding majority rule faster by allowing all voters to use a
ranked choice ballot. For the first time in US history, congressional
election will be decided by an instant runoff. See this piece on Maine by
my colleague Rich Robinson.
