[EL] correcting my own statement about Democratic candidates for US House

When I sent the election law list a message that the Democrats have candidates for US House in all but 2 district this year, that was correct.  But my message also said that no party had ever had candidates in that many US House districts.  What I should have said is that no party has had candidates in so many districts since 1974, when the Democrats only missed one.  Other years in which the Democrats only missed one or two are 1964, 1962, and 1958.
The Republicans have never had candidates in so many candidates, nor has any third party.

In earlier years, Democrats were handicapped by California's fusion system (called cross-filing in California), in which Republican nominees for congress frequently won Democratic nominations as well.  For example, in 1952, Republicans captured Democratic nominations as well as the Republican nomination in 8 US House districts in California. Richard Winger 415-922-9779 PO Box 470296, San Francisco Ca 94147
