"125 Democrats and 1 Republican Vote to Lower Voting Age to 16"<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104027>
Posted on March 8, 2019 11:14 am<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104027> by Justin Levitt<https://electionlawblog.org/?author=4>

The Daily Caller on Wednesday's (unsuccessful) vote<https://dailycaller.com/2019/03/08/house-democrats-voting-age-16/> on an amendment to HR 1 that would have lowered the voting age to 16. This might also have been unconstitutional, for the same reasons Derek mentioned here<http://excessofdemocracy.com/blog/2013/6/is-a-federal-ban-on-alien-voting-unconstitutional>.

"House votes in favor of illegal immigrant voting"<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104025>
Posted on March 8, 2019 11:13 am<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104025> by Justin Levitt<https://electionlawblog.org/?author=4>

Well, that's the Washington Times headline<https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/mar/8/house-votes-favor-illegal-immigrant-voting/>. But no, no they didn't. They turned back an attempt to add a nonbinding (and likely unconstitutional<http://excessofdemocracy.com/blog/2013/6/is-a-federal-ban-on-alien-voting-unconstitutional>) resolution (here's a version of the text<https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-resolution/1071/text> in last year's Congress).

"Paul Manafort sentenced to about 4 years in prison in Virginia case"<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104021>
Posted on March 7, 2019 4:19 pm<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104021> by Justin Levitt<https://electionlawblog.org/?author=4>

In line with sentencing guidelines, prosecutors had recommended 19-24 years; Judge Ellis sentenced Manafort<https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/paul-manafort-sentencing/2019/03/07/77f527b2-3e94-11e9-9361-301ffb5bd5e6_story.html> to 47 months.

As a reminder, this case (in Virginia) concerned tax fraud and bank fraud<https://www.justice.gov/file/1038391/download>. The sentencing in Manafort's DC case (after a plea<https://www.justice.gov/file/1094151/download> to conspiracy based on money laundering, failure to register as an agent of a foreign principal, and witness tampering) is March 13.

DOJ announces<https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/06/us/politics/fara-task-force-justice-department.html> a step up in enforcement of statutes regulating foreign influence, including the Foreign Agents Registration Act ... including a new team headed by a former Mueller prosecutor.

And a useful thread<https://twitter.com/SandersonMatt/status/1103649090938773504> here explaining the import.

"The Geography of Partisan Prejudice"<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104014>
Posted on March 7, 2019 11:50 am<https://electionlawblog.org/?p=104014> by Justin Levitt<https://electionlawblog.org/?author=4>

A fascinating mapping<https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/03/us-counties-vary-their-degree-partisan-prejudice/583072/> of estimates of affective polarization (how Americans feel about members of the opposing major party). The polling question isn't new, but I think that mapping the results onto counties by their demographic composition might be.

(Note: this doesn't mean that people in Florida or South Carolina or Massachusetts are actuallyirreconcilably prejudiced against opposing party members, or that folks in New York, North Carolina, or Nebraska aren't - just that counties in those states share demographic traits correlated to the demographics of folks who do or don't share high levels of partisan prejudice.)
