Hi, Folks

I'll share this tweet below. and Richard Winger's writeup with a link to
the ruling.

In Maine's presidential race this fall, RCV will be part of awarding
electoral votes in three tallies: one for each of Maine's two congressional
districts (1 electoral vote each) and one statewide (for 2 electoral votes)
It's a good bet that at least one of those contests will not have a first
round majority winner. It's also looking quite plausible that the U.S.
Senate election with incumbent Susan Collins will need an instant runoff as
well.

 In addition, here's coverage on the latest legal win from
* Bangor Daily News:

* Portland Press Herald:

And here's good post from Sam Wang about the brief defending RCV by the
Princeton Election Consortium

Terrific news from Maine, following on heels of ruling confirming ranked
choice voting will be used in the presidential elections in Maine for the
1st time in November. RCV will really matter: It's a highly competitive
state, w/4 candidates running for Senate & 5 for president

On August 14, U.S. District Court Judge Lance E. Walker, a Trump appointee,
refused to enjoin Maine from using ranked-choice voting. Hagopian v Dunlap,
1:20cv-257. Here is the 18-page order
<https://www.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.med.58808/gov.uscourts.med.58808.39.0.pdf>.
It is very readable and interesting, for any reader who is interested in
alternative voting systems.
