Subject: Election Law Listserv Housekeeping---PLEASE READ

It is August, and that means it is time for an annual message to list users, with some reminders and requests for updated information. Please save this email for future reference.

1. Handling subscriptions and archives. The current web home page for the election law listserv is here:

http://department-lists.uci.edu/mailman/listinfo/law-election

Use this address if you need to unsubscribe or change your subscription, move to "digest" mode, or access the archives.

[I will be sending a separate email about the pre-June 2011 archives.]

If you are abandoning an email address (such as by leaving a position at a job), please remember to unsubscribe before you go.

Please do NOT hit “unsubscribe” from the “ELB News and Commentary” email you get from me forwarded from Feedblitz. That does not unsubscribe you from the listserv but does mess up forwarding messages to the list.

2. Election law teacher database. The current version of the Election Law Teacher database (listing information about those who teach election law) is here:

https://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/Election-Law-Database-2020.xlsx

If you teach Election Law or a related course and you would like to be included in the database, or if you are on the database and have a change in information, please fill out this form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwTgtGeTJnSI88eBEatLF8M98aaXoZsW_5VlcReLC78ec6aw/viewform> (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwTgtGeTJnSI88eBEatLF8M98aaXoZsW_5VlcReLC78ec6aw/viewform) by Monday, August 10. (Send any questions about the form to stran at law.uci.edu<mailto:stran at law.uci.edu>.)

I only update once a year, so if you would like to be included in the teacher database now is the time.

3. Election law addressbook. This service has now been moved over to UCI Law. It provides lists of addresses for those who wish to receive election law article reprints or find someone's email address. You can access the list to make changes, print labels, or add yourself as a new addressee. To access the page you need to use the username "election" and the password, which is the same as the password at the old Loyola site. If you do not remember the password, please send a private message to my assistant, Stacy Tran, (stran at law.uci.edu<mailto:stran at law.uci.edu>) and she will email it to you.

Once you have the username and password, go to the following address:
https://apps.law.uci.edu/electlaw

4. Repository of election law teaching materials. You can find old exams, syllabi, etc. from a number of election law professors here:

http://electionlawblog.org/archives/003647.html

with a 2010 update, done by Josh Douglas:
http://electionlawblog.org/?p=15839

My 2021 syllabus is here:
 https://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/syllabus-election-law-2021.docx

My 2017 undergraduate campaign finance syllabus is here:
http://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/SYLLABUS.campfin.17.doc

My 2020 law campaign finance seminar syllabus is here:
https://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/SYLLABUS-REVISED.campfin101-georgetown.pdf

It would be a great project for someone to collect newer teaching materials and post them. I can then link on ELB and send out to the listserv.

5. Listserv archives. To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the Law-election Archives<http://department-lists.uci.edu/pipermail/law-election/>. Partial archives for the period before 2011 are available at this link: https://www.law.uci.edu/faculty/full-time/hasen/ell-archive.

6. Signing up for other mailing lists and blog postings. In an effort to keep traffic on the election law list manageable, we ask that those who maintain mailing lists for their election law related organizations or blogs send out a single, annual notice to the election law listserv about how to sign up for an electronic mailing list. These groups should send out an annual reminder message some time during August with information about how to sign up to receive regular emailings. Please do not get in the regular habit of sending press releases directly to the list. Send it to me for possible inclusion in the blog.

7. Quoting from listserv posts, for journalists and others/Google searches. Here is a reminder of our press policy: "Members of the press may subscribe to the listserv and may describe in general terms the substance of discussion on the list, but should not quote posted comments or attribute ideas to specific individuals without the consent of the individuals." Though we have endeavored to keep list archives off Google and other search engines, in the past some list postings have shown up on Google. A good rule of thumb is that everything you post on the list eventually will be read by your spouse, mother, boss, adversary, and every journalist in the U.S, and will remain on the Internet indefinitely. In other words, think before you hit the "send" button.

With over 1100 listserv subscribers, administrative issues can take some time. Your cooperation helps keep things moving smoothly. We always welcome your suggestions for improvements.
