This article hones in on the frustrations of Hand Marked Paper Ballot (HMPB) advocates who get mixed up with post-2020 election conspiracy theorists. I'd also add that while the recent voices warning about election subversion and calling for paper ballots are welcome, the focus should really be not just "paper ballots" generically, but on HMPBs specifically, as Prof. Haldeman notes in this article. One could read "paper ballots" to include Ballot Marking Devices (BMDs). BMDs can be hacked, and the scanners normally read barcodes which human voters cannot check.
It's also worth noting that the DHS Cybersecurity office has expressed interest in reviewing the report by Prof. Haldeman mentioned in the article, currently under seal in the Georgia litigation re: BMDs.

ATLANTA (AP) — The aftermath of the 2020 election put an intense spotlight on voting machines as supporters of former President Donald Trump claimed victory was stolen from him. While the theories were unproven — and many outlandish and blatantly false — election security experts say there are real concerns that need to be addressed.
