Addressing Eitan’s concern, ranked choice voting (RCV) has a rich and deep
history of use in elections without guiding party labels – even if those
labels can help guide voter behavior. Just a few examples:

* More than 50 American cities

*RCV is recommended by several parliamentary guides for non-governmental
organizations, including Robert's Rules of Order,

* A lot of major party elections and secondary elections are held with RCV.
Among examples:

- All five national parties in Canada

choose to elect their leaders with a ranked choice ballot, including the
Conservative Party of Canada in its current leadership elections.

- Most British and New Zealand party leader elections
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.fairvote.org/the-most-obvious-option-ranked-choice-voting__;!!CzAuKJ42GuquVTTmVmPViYEvSg!Jq7wISmtDnqcOKN21bn_l2bqnbEJ8u1jwx15AND-T1uoOVEWraQQY6OUXDROGtDR78i0GyvVewri3ng$ >use
RCV, including nearly all party offices and leadership posts for the Labor
Party

- In the United States, Republicans in 2020 used RCV

race

- All Democratic voters in four presidential primaries

cast RCV ballots in 2020, with more than 99% casting valid ballots and 90%
of acres of withdrawn candidates having their ballot count in the final
round for an active candidate – as opposed to more than three million
voters in non-RCV primaries whose ballot counted for a candidate who had
already withdrawn by the time the ballot was counted

As to Rob Kellner's concern, I give respondents the same credit I give them
when they are asked to opine and vote on any number of things. Voters may
be imperfect and frequently have to act on incomplete information, but I
respect their voice a great deal

Thanks,

Rob Richie, FairVote
