And that self-government via representative democracy depends on
protecting the representatives against conflicts of interest and undue
influence? My guess is that we might still agree, but will disagree on
how to & what should provide the protection.
Day job obligations require me to cut to the chase: I sincerely believe
that conservative refusal to accept the fallacy of the efficient markets
hypothesis as a means of understanding the real world, despite the
increasingly ruinous cost of multiple lessons to the contrary, is the
single greatest threat facing our country.

Good article, Jim.
Good insight, Brad. It seems there is a chasm, particularly among laymen
in both camps.
But I have often thought there is one thing the liberty minded and
would-be Progressive ministers absolutely agree upon, and that it both
explains the consistency of and drives the activity in both camps:
Self-government requires unfettered speech.
