Data, Policy & Legal Responses to the Attacks on Critical Race Theory


Critical Race Studies

This course provides students the opportunity to learn how to navigate and influence the evolving legal and policy attacks on Critical Race Theory through a blend of theory and practice. The course teaches students to conduct analysis using data, legal research, and policy crafting and uses the CRT Forward Tracking Project as a tool for engagement. Students will gain a deep understanding of official government action aiming to restrict access to truthful information about race and systemic racism, enabling them to put forth solutions to address one of the most pressing social and racial justice issues of our time. This course sharpens students' analytical and practical skills while also applying Critical Race Theory principles to contemporary legal and policy issues. Students will be assessed on their class participation, weekly assignments and reflections, and a final legal policy paper of a minimum of 5,500 words.
