LAW 123

Employment Contracts

In this course, students will be presented with, and discuss, the key documents used in connection with the full cycle of employment – applications, offer letters, employment agreements, and severance agreements.  Also included will be certain “stand-alone” documents such as arbitration agreements. These discussions will include relevant law, each party’s key purposes in entering into, and negotiating, these documents, potential employment risks dealt with in these documents, and examples of each document which may – or may not—include all of the key provisions to ascertain students’ understanding.

In addition, we will discuss in the course the other documents or policies commonly used by companies and their effect on the employment documents, such as the Employment Handbook. Lastly, the course will include a discussion of the comprehensive due diligence that should precede entering into any employment agreement.
