International Law

This seminar examines the most important legal frameworks governing international trade relations between states. Focusing on the law of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the European Union (EU), and U.S. Constitutional and statutory schemes, the course will engage discussion of central questions about trade and political economy.  It covers a broad range of international regulatory and legal issues, such as trade in goods, trade in services, trade remedy laws, international intellectual property protection, protection of the environment, dispute settlement, the proliferation of regional trade agreements, and deepening trade conflicts. Particular attention will be devoted to the relationships between trade law and geostrategic relations, economic growth, public health, the environment, organized labor, the structure of the state and society, and North-South relations.
