Lawyering in Practice: Externship Seminar
Lawyering in Practice: Externship Seminar is an experiential course that serves as the companion seminar for law students enrolled in part-time externships across a wide range of practice settings, including direct client service, impact litigation, community lawyering centers, policy advocacy, and legislative reform. Students gain exposure to diverse models of legal practice and examine common challenges that arise in professional settings, such as racial justice, ethics and professionalism, and managing mistakes. Through guided discussion and reflective exercises, students explore the issues lawyers confront on a daily basis and develop the practical skills necessary to address those challenges effectively and responsibly. Students also engage in structured reflection on their externship experiences, integrating lessons from practice into classroom dialogue and peer learning.
