My name is Lara Elhassan, and I'm a 3L at UCLA School of Law. I did my undergrad at UCLA and studied Public Affairs and Global Health, so staying here for law school felt like a natural continuation rather than a big leap. During undergrad, I worked as a research assistant at the UCLA School of Public Health working on tobacco cessation projects, and at the Luskin School of Public Policy analyzing social media trends during wartime.

Going into law school, I was undecided about what kind of law I wanted to practice, and that's completely okay. UCLA gave me the room to figure that out. Between professors who are invested in your path rather than just their subject, and classmates who push each other while still rooting for one another, it's been a place where "I don't know yet" was never treated as a problem to solve immediately.

During my 1L summer, I worked at a tenants' rights firm, and in my 2L summer I was at Latham & Watkins, where I have accepted an offer to return full time following graduation. This past summer, I was able to try corporate, litigation, and environmental work, and that’s what finally clicked for me. Now, in my 3L year, I'm taking every environmental law course I can. I also served as a writing advisor for 1Ls during my 2L year, which was one of the most rewarding parts of law school.
