Backtalker at UCLA Law: A Book Conversation with Kimberlé Crenshaw

April 16, 2026 5:45 PM - 8:30 PM

Please join the UCLA Law Review for a special evening celebrating Kimberlé Crenshaw’s forthcoming memoir, Backtalker.  Marking Professor Crenshaw’s 40th year at UCLA School of Law, this event will reflect on her extraordinary intellectual and institutional impact—on UCLA Law, the development of critical race studies, and the broader legal canon.

The evening will begin with a book conversation from 5:45–6:45 p.m. in Law Room 1357.  Professor Crenshaw will be in dialogue with Professor Cheryl Harris, whose scholarship has likewise helped shape the foundations of critical race theory and contemporary legal discourse.

A reception and mixer will follow from 6:45–8:30 p.m. in the Shapiro Courtyard, with assorted appetizers, beer, and wine.

This event is organized by the UCLA Law Review, with co-sponsorship from the Critical Race Studies Program and special support from the Dean’s Office.

We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you!
