Lecturer in Law
Mr. Koury has practiced indigent criminal defense over the last thirty four years. Previously he worked as a senior trial attorney and trainer at the Los Angeles County Public Defender's and the Central District Federal defender's offices. He has tried 160 Jury Trials in state & federal Court including twenty murder and attempted murder jury trials and two capital penalty jury trials. Two of his four clients sentenced to California's death row have since been removed.
In addition to his practice, he served on the IDP Juvenile and Adult Executive Panels, and is a hearing examiner for the LA Police Commission.
For work/life balance, he has flown paragliders and climbed big mountains around the world. He still skies and climbs moderate rock and ice climbs in the Sierra Nevada, Cascades and Rockies and is a devoted beach volleyball player.
