Shane Nix is a Professor at the UCLA School of Law who teaches Law 433 - Taxation of the Entertainment Industry.  His research lies in taxation and copyright law as applied within the entertainment industry.  He currently is a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in the firm’s Tax Department and Entertainment Transactions Practice where he advises entertainment clients on a variety of legal matters.

Nix received his B.A. in economics from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, his J.D. cum laude at DePaul University School of Law, and his LL.M. in Taxation at New York University School of Law.  During his J.D. program, Nix services on the DePaul-LCA Journal of Art and Entertainment Law where he published a journal article on U.S. Supreme Court developments in copyright law, and his article covering competition law policy analysis in the aviation industry was published with CCH.  He was awarded a Class of 1962 Scholarship for commitment to law school community and academic merit and the Nordic Law Club Scholarship awarded for commitment to international law and academic merit.

Nix is a frequent speaker on topics covering taxation of the entertainment industry, including the USC Tax Institute and CalCPA Entertainment Industry Conference.  He has published entertainment related articles regularly in the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, as well as other publications. He has been recognized in Chambers USA in Southern California for consecutive years 2024 through 2024 (currently Band 3), as well as Billboard Magazine’s Top Music Lawyers (2022-2026), Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report (2022 through 2023), Los Angeles Business Journal, 40 Thriving in Their 40s (2020), and Legal 500 U.S. (Tax 2023-2024 and Media, Entertainment Transactional in 2024).
