
UCLA School of Law’s top-ranked A. Barry Cappello Trial Team has completed the best weekend in its history, including strong finishes in multiple national competitions and the team’s first-ever victory in the Tournament of Champions, the nation’s premier invitational trial competition.

UCLA School of Law’s A. Barry Cappello Trial Team won the Battle of the Experts competition over the weekend of Oct. 24-25.

In its first competition since earning the No. 1 national ranking, UCLA School of Law’s A. Barry Cappello Trial Team on Oct. 4 won the Summit Cup, a trial advocacy competition hosted by University of Denver Sturm College of Law that is considered among the most prestigious and difficult trial competitions in the country.
The A. Barry Cappello Trial Team at UCLA School of Law now ranks as the No. 1 trial advocacy team in the nation.

Racial justice, crime prevention, bail reform and the highly publicized prosecution of Harvey Weinstein were at the forefront of an insightful and wide-ranging conversation that UCLA School of Law Dean Jennifer L. Mnookin hosted with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. on Sept. 11. The meeting was the fifth in UCLA Law’s ongoing “From the Front Lines” series of webinars where top legal leaders and experts discuss the most prominent issues of the day.

After winning the West Coast regional competition in November 2018, in January the UCLA Law Trial Team finished second in the country at the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law National Trial Competition.

UCLA School of Law bestowed its first two certificates in trial advocacy to graduates Jason Brower and Gerard Gully at the law school’s commencement ceremony in May 2018.

Two squads from the UCLA School of Law Trial Team advanced to the semifinals of the American College of Trial Lawyers' National Tournament Competition qualifier in Orange County in early February.
This continues the program's winning streak: Stretching back to the 2017-18 academic year, all of the last 10 UCLA teams to compete have advanced to the playoff rounds at their tournaments.

The UCLA Trial Team finished second in the National Ethics Trial Competition, which evaluates students on their ability to advocate on behalf of their clients while maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct.

The UCLA School of Law Trial Team won the American Association of Justice's Student Trial Advocacy Competition Southern California regional tournament in early March, giving the school consecutive championships at this event and sending the Bruins to AAJ's national tournament next month in Philadelphia.
UCLA entered two squads. Kyle DeCamp '19, Delaney Gold-Diamond '21, Kian Khajooei '20 and Aidan Welsh ('19) won the tournament with an undefeated record. Blake Berich '21, Nick Dyess '21, Jack Eyers '21 and Tiffany Sarchet '21 won two of their three trials.
