Cannabis Law & Policy: Federalism, Regulation, & Litigation
This course examines federal and state regulation of cannabis, with attention to the doctrinal and practical questions facing lawmakers, regulators, lawyers, and consumers. Recent years have seen new proposals at the federal and state level to regulate cannabis products. This course will explore the topic of federalism through cannabis regulation, Dormant Commerce Clause issues, and the second-order effects (such as bankruptcy and IP protections) of the illegality of cannabis at the federal level. We will also address practical aspects of advising clients in the cannabis sector, especially regarding cannabis transactions and litigation.
This course is particularly appropriate for those interested in food & drug law, consumer protection law, public health, administrative law, and class action litigation, among other areas. There are no prerequisites, and no prior knowledge is required.
