Employment Discrimination

This course examines the regulation of employment discrimination through Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related laws. It offers an introduction to the major doctrinal frameworks deployed in conceptualizing and relating difference, discrimination, and equality in the workplace. Race and sex are the primary focus, but with attention to and comparison with disability, sexual orientation and, to a lesser extent, age and religion.The course provides examples of contemporary employment discrimination problems and a view of some of the relevant theoretical foundations and debates in anti-discrimination law. Evaluation will be based on a paper analyzing an issue or case involving employment discrimination. This paper will not fulfill the SAW requirement.
