This course provides an introduction to family law, a body of doctrine and policy the regulates intimate interpersonal relationships. By the end of the semester, students will be able to understand the role and relevant of the Constitution to family law; understand how common law and statutory law regulates family law; synthesize a body of legal rules and principles and apply them to a unique set of facts, and understand the policies that underlie the different rules of family law. The course will pay special attention to race, class, gender and sexual orientation. The majority of the grade will be based on a final exam, adjusted for attendance and discussion participation.
