LAW 917

Health Law & Policy Research

This course is designed to introduce specific sources and research skills relevant to the study of health policy and the practice of health law. No prerequisites are required. This course is not a substitute for a full semester substantive health law course. We will discuss the basics of each topic at the level that a general practitioner would need to know. Although many of the topics will be of special interest to students intending to practice health law, some are also of general interest. Topics covered include administrative law research, health/medical research, looking for information about providers (e.g., physicians, hospitals), company research, insurance coverage including Medicare and Medicaid, pharmaceutical and medical device regulations, and health privacy. We will cover key primary and secondary sources for health and medical law research: state and federal statutes, regulations and other administrative materials, state and federal case law, subject‐specific secondary sources, medical research literature, and sources for current awareness.
