Women, Peace and Security

This seminar course will examine the United Nations Security Council’s Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda through a gender lens and in the context of contemporary forms of conflict and insecurity. It will examine the evolution of the agenda and its legal foundations in contemporary international law. It will focus on (i) women’s participation in the prevention, management and resolution of conflict; (ii) protection against sexual violence in conflict; (iii) prevention of sexual violence in conflict and of conflict – pillars of the WPS agenda, offering a critical gender and civil society perspective on these issues.
