Rivals United: Session #1

Rivals United - Negotiating Athlete Contracts Before and After Motherhood

In a first of its kind, UCLA School of Law and USC Gould School of Law are co-hosting a series of legal executive education webinars. Our four-part virtual series unites leading faculty and industry experts to explore the legal, business, and leadership challenges shaping the future of sports and entertainment.

The Comeback: How Motherhood is Reshaping Athlete Contracts

The negotiation playbook has changed. When Allyson Felix disclosed that Nike proposed cutting her compensation by 70% after her pregnancy, she not only sparked outrage, she forced a reckoning. Five years later, as Alice Kinsella attempts a historic post-pregnancy comeback ahead of LA28, dealmakers face an entirely new paradigm.

The core question for today's entertainment and sports representatives is no longer whether motherhood should be accounted for, but how. How do you structure agreements that protect both an athlete's evolving rights and the sponsor's business?

Join USC Gould School of Law Professor Kimberlina McKinney, Olympian Natasha Hastings, WNBA/NIL Agent Tracy Hughes, and UCLA School of Law Professor Hal Biagas for an immersive discussion.

Rivals United: Session #3

Rivals United - Are We Ready to Let AI Handle Judgment?

Are We Ready to Let AI Handle Judgment?

AI can score a gymnastics routine with near-perfect accuracy and track a figure skater’s rotations in real time. Why are we hesitant to give up control in areas like law and medicine? This session argues that AI is forcing us to separate lines we've always blurred: pattern recognition and judgment. Looking at law, medicine, immigration, and other high-stakes fields, panelists will discuss where AI should take the lead, where human judgment remains essential, and where the boundary between the two is less clear than we think.

Join UCLA School of Law Professor Alex Alben, USC Alum Dorna Moini, and more for an immersive discussion.
