My name is Claire Hyatt, and I am a 3L at UCLA School of Law. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. I attended the University of Southern California, where I majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Law, minored in Psychology and Law, and completed honors in Philosophy. During my time at USC, I was an active member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity and Delta Gamma sorority.
I chose UCLA Law for several reasons. First, UCLA offers a genuinely unparalleled location in Los Angeles, a city with countless opportunities in the legal field across all specialties. I came into law school unsure of exactly what area of law I wanted to pursue, so I was drawn in by UCLA’s diverse academic specializations which provide a customizable legal education that allows students to explore various fields. UCLA's strong reputation for fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment was crucial for me, as I wanted a supportive community to help me navigate the profession. I have found that the professors are not only leaders in their fields but are also genuinely dedicated to student success. UCLA’s extensive opportunities for professional development have been instrumental in my journey. Programs like “Friday Firm Connections” and other events organized by student societies and the Career Services Center bring firms to campus, allowing students to learn about different legal practices and network with professionals. These experiences helped me discover my interest in corporate transactional law within my first year, and make the connections needed to succeed.
At UCLA, I am currently the Co-Vice President of the Business Law Association and previously served as the 1L Representative. I am also the Director of Digital Media for the Federalist Society and the LEAD Alumni Chair for the Law Women Society. Additionally, I volunteer at the Eviction Defense Clinic. This summer, I will be working at Massumi & Consoli LLP in Century City, a firm specializing in structuring and negotiating complex transactions in private equity and mergers and acquisitions.
Law school is undoubtedly challenging, but the intelligent, kind, and caring community at UCLA truly sets it apart and has contributed to a law school experience that I wouldn’t want to change. I am thrilled with my decision to attend UCLA Law and am immensely grateful for the welcoming and supportive environment I have found here. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my experience at UCLA Law!
