Diversity: Going Forward
Jerry Kang | Distinguished Professor of Law, UCLA School of Law
Diversity and Inclusion initiatives are being attacked politically and legally. Instead of just playing defense, this moment requires leaders to level set and embrace a positive vision of what the jumble of terms diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, etc. all mean. In this keynote, Professor Kang will provide his vision of what inclusive leadership requires. Drawing on three bodies of social science -- implicit bias, identity threat, and intergroup interaction – he will provide an evidence-based account of why that vision is so difficult to realize. The goal is to catalyze conversations and design practical countermeasures that help build an equal working environment for all.

3:30 pm UCLA LAW ALUMNI MENTORING PATHWAY
The Office of DEI Initiatives and the UCLA Law Alumni Association believe in the power of mentoring and lifelong learning. We recognize the enormous potential within our Alumni community, and our mentoring program will foster meaningful relationships, promote professional growth, and provide valuable non-evaluative mentoring and guidance to our newest alumni and build diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Through mentoring pairings and small mentoring circles we will offer facilitated mentoring exchanges that will strengthen careers, increase confidence and opportunity, offer fresh perspectives, and expand creativity and innovation.
