Neil Bason teaches a Judicial Externship seminar as part of UCLA School of Law's part-time externship program. He is currently a Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California located in downtown Los Angeles and is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy issues. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Bason was special counsel at Duane Morris LLP in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he represented bankruptcy trustees in recovery and disposition of property and claim objections, and loan servicers, receivers, and other parties in debtor-creditor matters. He was also special counsel at Howard Rice Nemerovski Canday Falk & Rabkin P.C. (now combined with Arnold & Porter LLP), where he represented debtors, creditors, equity holders and purchasers in complex Chapter 11 proceedings.
Judge Bason earned his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law where he was a Note Editor for the Boston University Law Review. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Dennis Montali, Bankruptcy Judge of the Northern District of California and Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Ninth Circuit.
When Judge Bason is not sitting in downtown Los Angeles, he is usually hiking, biking, or dining nearby.
