UCLA Law Establishes Student Wellness Fund Amid COVID-19 Crisis

UCLA Law Magazine | Fall 2020 | Volume 43

From the onset of the pandemic, UCLA Law established a fund to assist students with urgent needs brought on by the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and address some of the long-term impacts of the related disruptions. The Law Student Wellness Support Fund provides:

  • Emergency grants up to $1,000 to students for immediate needs such as food, housing, healthcare and access to educational technology
  • Access to counseling and mental health services through our UCLA partner organizations
  • Support for our students’ pro bono efforts to help others in great need

The emergency grants received support from the AccessLex Institute — a nonprofit organization whose members include the country’s nearly 200 American Bar Association-accredited law schools — generous members of the UCLA Law faculty and others. AccessLex made a $25,000 contribution.

“Everybody recognizes that the disruption, dislocation and health concerns connected to the pandemic are taking a toll,” said UCLA Law Dean Jennifer Mnookin. “I am happy our community can offer this immediate support, and a support structure that will be there for students long after this crisis, as well.”
