Distinguished Professor Hiroshi Motomura and Professor Timothy Malloy were presented with the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching at a virtual ceremony on April 28. They are the 43rd and 44th recipients of UCLA School of Law’s highest honor for distinction in the classroom.

U.S. Representative Ted Lieu (D-California) will deliver the keynote address to the UCLA School of Law Class of 2021 at the law school’s virtual commencement ceremony on May 21.

Rep. Lieu is the congressman who represents UCLA and surrounding neighborhoods in Washington, and he has visited UCLA and the law school several times since his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014. He is admired as one of the staunchest advocates for civil rights, the environment, and issues surrounding technology, among many other things.

For the first time, leaders across Indian country have a toolkit available to them to address Indigenous and human rights through tribal lawmaking that supports and implements the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

UCLA School of Law’s A. Barry Cappello Trial Team completed another dominant month in March. Already ranked No. 1 in the nation, the team won the National Ethics Trial Competition, took second place at the South Texas Challenge, and finished in third place at the Capitol City Challenge. Each virtual tournament included more than 30 law schools.

On Tuesday, eight people were tragically killed in and around Atlanta, six of them Asian women. Those victims who have been identified include Dayou Feng, Hyeon Jeong Park, Julie Park, Xiaojie Tan, Paul Andre Michels, and Delaina Ashley Yaun. Xiaojie Tan was about to celebrate her 50th birthday. Daoyou Feng had only recently begun working at the spa where she was killed.
