We are pleased to join the Documentary Film Legal Clinic for a special screening and celebration: they will present Ricochet (https://www.ricochetfilm.com/), a multiple award-winning documentary about a tragic death in San Francisco that set off a political furor and the public defenders who fought to defend an innocent, undocumented immigrant. The event will also serve as an opportunity to honor Dan Mayeda, who will be retiring from his position with the DFLC at the end of 2023. We have invited former DFLC clients (independent filmmakers), DFLC alums and UCLAW faculty and staff. If you are a current student interested in our DFLC program, do not miss this event!

Laura Pedraza-Fariña, a scholar whose work focuses on the cutting edge of developments in science and technology, will join UCLA School of Law as a professor of law in January 2024.
She comes to UCLA Law from Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law. She has been a member of that law school’s faculty since 2013, including as a professor of law and, since 2021, associate dean for innovation and partnerships. Previously, she was a visiting lecturer and law research fellow at Georgetown University Law Center.
The Institute for Technology, Law & Policy will be hosting a one-hour, bi-weekly Tech Talk for the Fall 2023 Semester every other Wednesday, starting at 12:15 PM. The series will feature different speakers who are experts in the tech and law space.

The Institute for Technology, Law & Policy will be hosting Congressman Ted W. Lieu to speak with students about The National AI Commission Act on Thursday, September 7th in Law School Room 1430, starting at 12:00 PM.
Ted W. Lieu is an American attorney, politician, and retired military officer who has represented California's 36th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2023. He represented the 33rd congressional district from 2015 to 2023.
