
Six UCLA School of Law professors, including leading scholars in environmental law, critical race studies, law and philosophy, health law and constitutional law, have received appointments to endowed faculty chairs. Four of the chairs are being filled for the first time.

A sweeping collection of laws and legal authorities governing many aspects of the coronavirus pandemic has been published by UCLA School of Law, thanks to the quick work of law librarian Lynn McClelland.

UCLA School of Law Professor Jill Horwitz on Sept. 8 published the results of an innovative study of prescription regulations meant to address the ongoing opioid crisis. The article, “Regulating Opioid Supply Through Insurance Coverage,” appears in the September 2020 issue of Health Affairs, the nation’s premier journal covering health policy and research. The piece is one of two articles that Horwitz has recently published on her opioid-related research.

Culminating years of work led by UCLA School of Law professor Jill Horwitz, on May 20 the American Law Institute approved a comprehensive compendium of the legal issues that confront charitable nonprofit institutions.

A report issued on Jan. 7 by UCLA School of Law’s Criminal Justice Program, the RAND Corporation and other organizations details the extent to which Los Angeles County may divert people with serious mental health disorders away from traditional criminal-justice processes and into community-based clinical programs or permanent supportive housing.

Students and faculty members with UCLA School of Law’s Criminal Defense Clinic played a key role in securing the release last week of an at-risk inmate from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center as part of the clinic’s broader effort to reduce the acute risks to prisoners from the coronavirus.
