UCLA School of Law Professor E. Tendayi Achiume testified in a virtual hearing, “H.R. 40: Exploring the Path to Reparative Justice in America,” that the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties held on Feb. 17.

Anna Spain Bradley, a scholar of international law, human rights, dispute resolution and racism, who currently serves as UCLA’s vice chancellor for equity, diversity and inclusion, has joined the UCLA School of Law faculty as a professor of law.
Spain Bradley came to UCLA’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in 2020 after serving as a law professor and the assistant vice provost for faculty development and diversity at the University of Colorado Boulder.

In keeping with our mission to empower the next generation of human rights lawyers and leaders, the Promise Institute for Human Rights is excited to announce we are among a select group of finalists to receive a University of California Multicampus Research Programs Initiatives grant. We share this honor with our collaborators, UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center and UC Santa Cruz’s Research Center for the Americas.

UCLA School of Law Professor Khaled Abou El Fadl received the American Academy of Religion’s Martin E. Marty Award for the Public Understanding of Religion in a virtual ceremony on Dec. 7.

UCLA School of Law’s Human Rights Litigation Clinic is part of a litigation team representing child victims of forced labor in the chocolate industry in Nestle USA, Inc. v. Doe I and Cargill, Inc. v. Doe I, two consolidated petitions concerning an Alien Tort Statute lawsuit that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear on Dec. 1.

Kate Mackintosh, the executive director of the Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law, has joined a panel of leading international lawyers and judges who will work to draft a definition of “ecocide” as a potential international crime alongside terms including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law supported five fellows in summer internships with human rights organizations around the world in 2020.
