Hi there! I’m Channing Hans, a 3L here at UCLA with a focus on entertainment law. Originally from Marietta, GA, I spent the eight years before law school in New York City, which feels like a second home to me. I attended NYU for undergrad, where I was a member of the women’s swim team and majored in film. After graduation from UCLA, I’m excited to head back to NYC to start working at a law firm.
Before diving into law school, I worked as a producer for the TODAY Show, where I collaborated closely with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on their daily segments. I truly cherished my time there and wouldn’t trade it for anything. However, I realized my passion was leaning towards the legal aspects of the industry, which led me to make the bold move to law school.
In 2022, I traded my cozy NYC studio for the vibrant city of LA to attend UCLA Law. Adjusting from nearly a decade in NYC was a big change. But UCLA welcomed me with open arms, and I’ve embraced the shift wholeheartedly.
At UCLA, I’m actively involved as the president of the Entertainment Law Association, a tour guide, a writing advisor, and a student ambassador. My coursework mainly focuses on entertainment and tech law. A standout experience for me has been participating in the Talent Brand Partnerships NIL Clinic, where we support UCLA student-athletes with their brand deals on a pro-bono basis. This clinic has been a highlight of my law school journey, and I’m incredibly grateful to my professors for their guidance.
Last summer, I worked at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein and Selz (FKKS), where I was originally set to focus on entertainment law. However, due to the Hollywood strikes, I also delved into data and privacy, exploring how entertainment law intersects with artificial intelligence. This past summer, I interned at Cooley in NYC, where I worked on influencer deals (thanks to the NIL Clinic experience), technology transactions, and corporate financings.
UCLA has truly prepared me for a career in entertainment law. With a wealth of clinics to choose from and exceptional professors, it’s been an incredible journey. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have about UCLA, particularly about entertainment law, tech law, sports law, or making a cross-country move. Feel free to reach out!
