UCLA Law to host conference on 2024 election integrity

EVENT: On March 17, UCLA School of Law will host, “Can American democracy survive the 2024 elections?” An all-star lineup will discuss the role of media, law, political norms and technology in assuring free and fair elections and public acceptance of election results in the United States.

INFORMATION:

UCLA School of Law’s Safeguarding Democracy Project will convene a daylong conference, bringing leading election officials, election administrators, scholars, lawyers, and community leaders in a cross-ideological, interdisciplinary conversation about ongoing threats to free and fair elections in the United States, and what may be done for a safe and successful 2024 U.S. presidential election. Richard Hasen, professor of law and internationally renowned election law expert, helms the project.

Speakers include:

  • Bob Bauer, Professor of Practice and Distinguished Scholar in Residence and Co-Director of the Legislative and Regulatory Process Clinic
  • The Hon. Jocelyn Benson, Secretary of State in Michigan
  • Benjamin Ginsberg, Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution and Lecturer at Stanford Law School
  • Sarah Longwell, President and CEO, Longwell Partners, and Publisher, The Bulwark
  • Janai Nelson ’96, President and Director-Counsel at NAACP Legal Defense Fund
  • Stephen Richer, Recorder in Maricopa County, Arizona
  • Kim Wyman, Senior Election Security Advisor for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • Emily Zhang, Assistant Professor of Law at UC Berkeley Law

Panels include: election threats, inside and outside; the role of media and social media; the role of tech; election denialism and the future of the Republican Party; the role of politics and norms; the role of election law; and the role of practicing lawyers.
