UCLA School of Law joined eight law schools in sponsoring a national address to law students by Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and former president of Chile, on March 31.

With victories in the two premier trial advocacy competitions in the country – the National Trial Competition and the Student Trial Advocacy Competition – UCLA School of Law’s A. Barry Cappello Trial Team has earned its most prestigious wins ever and is the national champion. No school has ever before won both titles in the same season.

UCLA School of Law Professor Sharon Dolovich has published an article that analyzes key data on the willingness of incarcerated people to receive vaccinations for COVID-19.

UCLA School of Law’s A. Barry Cappello Trial Team completed another dominant month in March. Already ranked No. 1 in the nation, the team won the National Ethics Trial Competition, took second place at the South Texas Challenge, and finished in third place at the Capitol City Challenge. Each virtual tournament included more than 30 law schools.

On Tuesday, eight people were tragically killed in and around Atlanta, six of them Asian women. Those victims who have been identified include Dayou Feng, Hyeon Jeong Park, Julie Park, Xiaojie Tan, Paul Andre Michels, and Delaina Ashley Yaun. Xiaojie Tan was about to celebrate her 50th birthday. Daoyou Feng had only recently begun working at the spa where she was killed.

UCLA School of Law students Delaney Gold-Diamond ’21 and Avery Hitchcock ’21 won the prestigious Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition, which was held virtually over the course of several weeks, from late February through mid-March.

UCLA School of Law Professor Hiroshi Motomura testified in a mostly virtual hearing on “Discrimination and Violence Against Asian Americans” that the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties held on March 18.

UCLA School of Law Professor E. Tendayi Achiume has been named a 2021 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.

The honor from the World Economic Forum – the organization that presents the renowned annual summit in Davos, Switzerland – celebrates “the world’s most inspiring and responsible leaders under the age of 40.” It recognizes people who “come from different communities and industries worldwide” and are committed to making a difference.

UCLA School of Law Professor Sharon Dolovich has been selected to receive the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award for 2020-21, with an additional citation for Distinction in Teaching at the Graduate Level.

Celebrated human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and UCLA School of Law Dean Jennifer L. Mnookin participated in a conversation titled “Doing the Right Thing” on March 11, sharing their perspectives on leadership, success, and making a positive difference in the world.
