Alarm at Civilian Victims of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh Conflict

October 5, 2020

Dear friends and colleagues,

The Promise Institute for Human Rights is horrified at credible reports of attacks using heavy weaponry on populated areas taking a deadly toll on civilians in the Nagorno-Karabakh / Artsakh conflict over the weekend, including from the International Committee of the Red Cross. The involvement of regional powers is alarming, particularly for a population still scarred by the horrors of the Armenian genocide. We urge a return to diplomacy and full respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

Please see our previous statements from July 30, 2020 and October 3, 2020. For more information on this rapidly changing situation, please visit the website of our sister Promise Armenian Institute on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Border Conflict. A statement from the UCLA Armenian Law Students Association can be found here.
